Becoming a family, or bringing an additional baby into a family, is a monumental transition!  For the Love of Birth can provide you with a postpartum doula that has been trained to help the mother and her family during this transitional time.

Some of the benefits of postpartum doula care include increased rates of successful breastfeeding, less maternal exhaustion, frustration, and apprehension during the early weeks, greater understanding of newborn emotional and physical needs and behavior, earlier bonding due to increased maternal confidence, and reduced rates of maternal postpartum depression (and/or shorter duration of depression if it occurs).

 A postpartum doula supporting a family may...

• Provide hands-on education on infant and mother care
• Create a nurturing, restful atmosphere in which parents may eat, shower and nap
• Shop for groceries and prepare meals
• Play with older children and offer suggestions for how to integrate the new baby into the family
• Spend time with the baby, allowing parents to sleep and have quality time with older children
• Introduce parenting tips, helping parents to learn skills that will enable them to cope with their new responsibilities
• Make referrals to any local or informational resources that the parents might need 
• Help to organize the nursery and home
• Take care of the baby’s laundry
• Offer a listening, non-judgmental ear

A postpartum doula is a non-judgmental woman with a quiet presence in your home. Each family’s needs are different, so the services provided by your doula will vary to accommodate your family in the best possible manner.

All of our postpartum doulas are trained and adult and child CPR trained.  We also care for twins and triplets.
Postpartum Doulas work between 3-6 hours per day, several days a week or 5 days a week. Each family is unique and their needs are too. We pride ourselves on our flexibility.  Upon request, postpartum doulas may be available at night.
